about

For the Italian pianist, the concept of the second album is a natural evolution of "My Inner Child", his first album as a leader. In After the Rain are still very present the distinctive elements of the first album but there is a significant artistic evolution also in the direction of standards. It is here that the pianist tries to infuse his interpretation with small and sometimes more marked changes. We are not dealing with a desecrating approach but rather with a desire to reconnect with an acquired tradition in which its stylistic signature becomes evident in small steps: digging into the phrasing, rearranged with intelligence small aspects and with courageous rhythmic choices and mood that somehow illuminate the songs from a different perspective without distorting their shape.
The pianist’s choices range from the more traditional material of the American songbook ("But Not For Me" by G. Gershwin), through the originals ("Ask Me Now" by T. Monk) and up to some songs now consecrated of the pop rock repertoire of the 60s ("Blackbird" by The Beatles) and late 90s ("No Surprises" by Radiohead).
A continuous research on the thematic structure and the possibilities of melodic development within jazz and compositional styles, also the result of the work on stages performed by the pianist in the last year presenting himself as soloist and leader of the Mag Trio.
The Italian pianist, in this new work, traces a clear path of artistic evolution in which the dimension of the trio and the piano solo confirm themselves as a natural robe, almost a second skin, that make his artistic communication a journey of emotional sincerity, expressive involvement and language, extremely personal.
