I wrote “Deck Five” during an important period of my life: while I was in the middle of the ocean. It was 2016 and I had been hired to play in the Jazz Club of one of the largest cruise ships of the world. So unless I was lying in the sun on some Caribbean island I was practicing on “Deck 5”, where there was this bar for the crew members which was closed during the day and therefore became my practice room.
